NECC rates are suggested, not mandatory
NECC states that the egg prices it suggests, whether on its website or through any other medium, are advisory and not binding. The committee does not itself, or through any person, enforce compliance with those prices in any manner. They are published for the reference and information of the trade and industry.
Everything on this site inherits that limitation. A rate here is a reference point. It is not a quotation, not an offer, and not a price anyone is obliged to honour.
Wholesale, not retail
NECC rates are wholesale figures at the mandi or farm-gate level. What you pay at a shop will normally be higher, because retail prices absorb transport, handling, breakage, storage and the seller's margin. A shop charging more than the rate shown here is not necessarily overcharging.
Accuracy
We take accuracy seriously and have described our method, including its failure modes, on how we source our data. Even so, we cannot guarantee that every figure is complete, current or free of error. Data can be delayed by problems at the source, by network failures, or by changes to NECC's published format. NECC may also itself publish and later correct a figure.
Where we have no confirmed figure, we say so rather than estimating. Where a figure is carried forward from an earlier declaration, we label it and show its original date.
Estimated figures
Retail and supermarket prices shown on market pages are estimates derived from the wholesale rate, and are labelled as such. They are illustrations of the typical gap between wholesale and counter prices, not observed or quoted prices.
Commercial decisions
If you are trading on these figures, verify them independently before you commit. We accept no liability for loss or damage of any kind arising from reliance on the information on this site, including trading losses, contractual disputes or business decisions taken on the basis of a rate published here.
